This is page 14 of my children's book Ol' Pigtoes. This page is a transition page in the book, as the story takes a turn in the night at the McBean home.
I had a lot of fun doing this page! I actually wanted the stars and moon to be accurate in the sky. So I decided the farm was in the state of Illinois, so I had a location. I also decided how the farm was oriented to North. Then, I researched what position the stars were in the sky around 1am. I dotted the sky with that portion of the sky with the constellations. Then, I researched when the moon would be full and in the sky at that time of night. I got a full moon around September 1, 2012 to position in the sky. Though I added a lot more stars with splatter, you can still see some of the original constellations.
